Meeting Topics and Outcomes

The Data Governance Steering Committee meets bi-monthly and the Operational Committee meets monthly. Meeting topics and outcomes are listed below. In addition, both groups reserve time to receive standing updates from the primary liaisons for data related committees/groups.

Data Governance Steering Committee

Dec 2020

  1. Operational Committee Updates
  2. Core Data Management (CDM)

    Outcomes: Finalized a white paper outlining CDM near-term priorities and endorsed moving forward on implementation with a clarification that existing systems and expertise will be leveraged and that the Data Governance Operations Committee will work with the new data domain councils of stewards to address CDM work.

  3. Enterprise Organization Codes task force recommendations
    Outcomes: Reviewed and voted to endorse moving forward on the report’s recommendations. Discussed next steps.
  4. Data Stewardship Update
    Outcomes: Launching stewardship of the Finance domain first, followed by HR. Finance domain leaders include Institutional Data Steward Sarah Hall, VP of the Office of Planning and Budgeting, and Domain Council Chair Ann Anderson, AVP for Enterprise Services, UW Finance.

  3. Discussion of implementation and integration of UW organization structure
    Outcome: Based on a presentation of issues raised for data governance consideration, approved the formation of a task force to make recommendations for an organizational code structure that is system agnostic, would provide consistency across the UW and can be consumed by various systems
  4. Discussion of current state of UW Data Trustees & Custodians
    Outcome: Operational committee will re-evaluate the current data stewardship model and revise it, to better position data stewardship for success and to address known issues

December 2019

    Outcome: Approved the formation of a task force to identify and suggest a path forward for items of shared interests for data governance and Finance Transformation
  5. Discussion of Classification of Instructional (CIP) Codes process
    Outcome: Based on a presentation of issues raised for data governance consideration, members approved the formation of a task force to re-evaluate the CIP code process and make recommendations to the committee for improving the process and implementing mandatory changes to CIP codes in 2020

April 2020

  1. Discussion of data stewardship
    Outcome: Members discussed a summary of the current and future state of data stewardship based on previous feedback and began a small group activity to recommend ways to improve a sense of institutional ownership of data, and create a common definition of data stewardship with clear roles and responsibilities that set colleagues up for success.

    Outcome: Approved recommendation to adopt a standard for country codes for the UW. Approved formation of a task force for implementation, organizational change management and communication of the new country code standard
